Alito bit anti-choice?
Republicans' moms say the darnedest things!
Judge Samuel Alito has consistently attempted to erode abortion rights. He argued in the famous 1991 Planned Parenthood v. Casey case that women had to notify their husbands before getting an abortion, writing: "Pennsylvania has a legitimate interest in furthering the husband's interest in the fate of the fetus." Unfortunately for the fetus, Alito was in the minority.
Yet, it was not clear if Alito was unequivocally anti-choice... Until Now!
Alito's 90-year-old mother Rose told the Associated Press "Of course he's against abortion."
The woman who knows Alito best, a school teacher seen here with the Anti-choice manual for children "Furry's Adventure", has told the world that her son is indeed against abortion. If only the mothers of Harriet Miers and John Roberts had been so forthcoming and candid. It would have saved the senate a lot of time.
Alito must not be too happy about his mother's admission. This photo was taken right after he heard about his mother's leak and exclaimed "Doy" and hit himself on the forehead.
Of course this isn't the first time a the mother of a Republican in the national spot light has blown up her son's spot.
Just a few months ago Barbara "Babsy" Bush made some less than delicate comments about the Katrina victims. After visiting the Houston Astrodome, Barbara told reporters: "What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this is working very well for them."
Bush's own blog reveals his embarrassment at his mother's bluntness.
Barbara's comments are particularly scary when we remember that this was what she said to reporters while the cameras were rolling in an attempt to do damage control for her son. What on earth was she saying off-camera. Of course we'll never know, but I assume it included repeated use of "The N Word".
